If Tobey Maguire is the star of "Spider-Man 4," you can count on Thomas Haden Church to reprise his role as Sandman.
Church, who starred as Flint Marko, also known as Sandman, appeared in Maguire's "Spider-Man 3" and the Tom Holland-led "Spider-Man: No Way Home."
The actor teased the possibility of director Sam Raimi continuing Maguire's "Spider-Man," telling Comic Book, "I've heard rumors…that Sam Raimi was going to do another ("Spider-Man") with Tobey and if that happens, I would probably campaign to maybe at least do a cameo."
USA TODAY has reached out to Maguire, Raimi and Church for comment.
Raimi directed the "Spider-Man" trilogy starring Maguire. He also directed "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," which hit theaters last year.
In April 2022, Raimi told Comic Book he hasn't completely shut the door on "Spider-Man."
"I’ve come to realize after making 'Doctor Strange' that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups," the director said. "I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible."
No plans had been set in motion though, Raimi clarified. "I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don’t know what their thoughts are about that. I haven’t really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful," he said.
Raimi added: "Even if it wasn’t a 'Spider-Man' movie, I’d love to work with Tobey again, in a different role."

"Spider-Man: No Way Home," which saw Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprise their roles as the friendly neighborhood hero, grossed $1.05 billion globally after opening weekend.
It was the first film since the start of the pandemic to cross $1 billion and the second-fastest film ever to do so – and without the benefit of being released in China.
